Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades After Leading Abusive Chants Targeting Manager Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side only seven months after instigating insulting taunts directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a agreement joining the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year career with Leeds concluded amicably in August.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading abusive songs regarding Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the former England player is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to lift his beloved club away from the bottom places.
Previous History Between Bamford and Wilder
Both men had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion to the top flight last season while Sheffield United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends and Looking Ahead
All appears to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford looking to resurrect his career.
The song about Wilder went viral in April. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I have no problem at all with that. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! However I valued and respected him calling me.
“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Latest Playing Challenges
Bamford made 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign however the former Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro player has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
