The athlete achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in London.

Keely Hodgkinson finished her 800m season with a win at the women-only Athlos event in NYC on Friday evening.

{The current Olympic champion, who earned third place at the World Championships last month, excelled in an impressive victory in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a year affected by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) claimed third.

"I haven't competed much this year so it was probably less of a struggle for me to compete and want to give it something," stated the 23-year-old.

"The atmosphere out there is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."

The women-only event packed the stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to traditional track, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing standard medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the victors with their crowns.

Previous champions took home $60,000 (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The competition also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in 4:17.78.

American Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, secured the sprint double.
