Dominant Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Honors.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Dominance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a tour-best nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Statistics
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and picked up a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.
She earned nearly eighty percent of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a extended hiatus following the arrival of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
