Accused Harasser Questioned: 'However What If I Might Be Madeleine?'
A woman charged with pursuing Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a recorded message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who witnesses stated has persistently asserted she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial indicted with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the court was told communication data and information retrieved from phones recorded Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test over that period.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most widely reported child disappearance cases and remains unsolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
One phone message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm heavy and unattractive like Madeleine used to be, but I believe what I feel."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail stated: "What if there is a tiny probability that I am she? Then what? Is that not important for you?"
"I do not need money, I possess a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," the recording stated.
The tribunal was told that by means of electronic messages, mobile messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a biological test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a likeness to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a early life with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an investigator with law enforcement who compiled the evidence, told the court there "showed no any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with close associates of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.
On that date, Mr McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "incorrect contact information."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I will persist and I plan to establish my position."
The court learned the co-defendant established a connection online with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a visit to the McCanns' home in that area in December 2024.
Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had communicated via communication app to Mrs McCann to state the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she ought to be treated respectfully in the months preceding the visit to Rothley, Leicestershire, in last December.
The court learned communications between the two defendants, in last November, discussing trying to acquire Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her trash or from cutlery at a restaurant.
"We need to take action," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the trip to their residence, the defendant sent a message which said: "We find ourselves sitting adjacent to the McCanns' home with our lights out resembling investigators. I had hoped to achieve this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The trial ongoing.
