2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Transition Follows Mixed Reception
The new appointee assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer updated team members about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a more defined vision.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now reimagining the project with a revised approach, aiming to address community desires.
Trend of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement echoes a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the complete text from the president's memo:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to persist.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was revealing. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the need for a sharper vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the feedback to mind and revamped the title with a renewed goal - one that’s ready to deliver on its ambition to our audience.
The trust in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the remarkable development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the latest Director of 31st Union. Following some time of discussions, Ben starts with us on the specified date.
His management and background in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having spent the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in welcoming him soon. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the development of the game in the weeks to follow.
The President

Game Information and Vision
Project Ethos was announced in last year in conjunction with a early access event. Then, 31st Union presented the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the description reads. "Challenge the opponents with unique powers, challenges, and obstacles that evolve every match. Do you safely extract with your collected items? Or take a risk, put it on the line, and hope your squad can achieve the highest spot? The option is in your hands."
The game does not have an confirmed debut schedule or platforms, but fans can anticipate further news as development continues.
